Women deserve high prominence in the society. Family relations and its security are to be identified as one of the important challenge of the society. The mission of women for the behavioral glorification in family relations is very crucial. Doctrine of woman participation for the accomplishment of Christian Mission was commenced during the public service of Jesus itself. Those women were privileged to walk beside our Savior, as they were self-dedicated to the Lord's presence till his ascension. Jesus invites women to walk with God, realizing the requisite of the society.

Martha Mariam Smajan [Women's Organization] is one of the major spiritual organizations of the Malankara Orthodox Church uniting all the female members under cross of our Lord. The organization was founded in 1920 aimed at the spiritual progress of women. Now this organization is spread over all parishes of the twenty-four dioceses of the Church across the world. The Vicar of the parish is the President of the parish level Samajam, who gives guidance and support to the activities of each parish wing.  

MARTHA MARIAM SAMAJAM AT TORRESDALE CHURCH

Our Parish unit of Marth Mariam Samajam is the backbone of the spiritual growth of our parish as well as the church building project. They are a part of the fund raising activities for the new church construction and instrumental for the successful conduct of the annual house to house Christmas caroling along with the youth group. Our Martha Mariam Samajam had taken initiative to collect at their own level and contribute for the Church building fund. Majority of the women in the Church are employed and now a new campaign is started to collect one day salary for the new Church building project.   

MARTHAMARIAM SAMAJAM MEMBERS 

Regular Meetings were held on every other Sunday after the Holy Qurbana, and from January 2008, we are having prayer meeting every third week in a month at one of the member’s residence for the convenience of our members. Very Rev. K. Mathai Corepiscopa Achen tries his best to attend these meetings and encourages all our activities. Achen teach the doctrines of the church, the importance and the details of Holy Qurbana, the importance of the sacraments and other relevant topics to the Samajam members, youths and the whole church. We get a lot of encouragement from Rev. Dn. Markose Mani and he also leads us in our prayers and retreats.  

 

SAMAJAM MEETINGS

Good number of our Parish Martha Mariam Samajam members attends the annual conferences and retreat organized in the diocesan level. In the past our Parish Martha Mariam Samajam hosted the diocesan level annual Martha Mariam Samajam Conference and annual Parish retreat.

FOR NEWYORK CONFERENCE WITH REV. DN. MARKOSE MANI

Samajam continues to serve as an inspiration for our parish women through involvement in the worship, Sunday school and their determination to serve the needy. Parish Unit is actively involved in the community and social/humanitarian activities also. Our parish Samajam conducts prayer meetings for the needy, troubled, sick and bereaved families and visit sick in their houses. In the year 2007 we visited Mrs. Annamma Maret, Mrs Mariamma Abraham, Dr Rev. Paul Varkey and Mrs. Sosamma Abraham while they were sick.

Martha Mariam Samajam conducted a retreat on March 31st Saturday during the Lenten time under the leader ship of our Vicar Achen. Samajam members attended Parents and couples Conferences on June 2nd, 2007 at St Mary’s Orthodox Church, Staten Island, New York. Also we attended the annual conference on Oct 13th at  St. Mary’s Orthodox church, Jackson Heights, New York.

We always send our share for the charity through American diocese Martha Mariam Samajam.

During the year 2008, a sent-off meeting was arranged for Mrs. Annamma Maret. She was an active member for many years. In the Year 2007, we conducted bake sale four times. Also we were able to collect through the container collection from each houses. We have helped  Mr. K.G Mathaikutty (sick aid) through Yuhannon Rambachen during this year. 

SERVING FOOD AFTER SUNDAY WORSHIP

Diocesan Metropolitan H.G. Mathews Mar Barnabas is the President of the Samajam in the diocesan level and Very Rev. K. Mathai Cor-Episcopa, Vicar of the Parish is the President of our Parish Unit.
